Meet Rising Independent Rapper- GQ From Mutare #Zimhiphop #hiphop

Indie artist Chengetai Mapenzauswa aka GQ ,is a 19 year Mutare born rap music artist who started listening  to hip-hop at the tender age of 5 (in the year 2000). The culture inspired him so much that by the age of 10 he decided to start doing rap and became a hip-hop story teller in his own right.

GQ Zimbabwe hip-hop ArtisteGQ dropped hhis first Mixtape in 2013, it was entitled Racing To the Top, you can find it here : (GQ’s Racing To the Top stream and Download). He is promising to give us an album called Sick Thoughts later this year. His music is meant to move underground hip-hop heads he says.

Was glad to note that the young artist has more local influences listed than American rappers, which may be a good sign that the Zim hip-hop industry is becoming important by the day. Amongst his international influences are the late 2 Pac Shakur, Kendrick Lamar and J.Cole. This is probably why he is a story teller type of rap artist. Locally he has been influenced by artists such as Mau Mau, Munetsi, Junior Brown, Karma, Tehn Diamond, Savage, Mc Cut, Mariachi and the late King Pinn. Most of these artists have great lyricism, some tell the best stories you’ll ever get to hear in Zim Hip-hop.

“Racing to the top is basically about getting the limelight and the Sick Thoughts album is exploring my musical thoughts, the strengths I have as a rapper. The album socially relates to the ups and downs of people in society.” – GQ

If dopeness by association in the music industry is anything to go by, the young artist has worked with beasts like Kritic Igwee. He has also worked with KXD ,KIMO and Nash Da King.  He is currently managed by Bruce Chitate.

Hope you enjoy the music you will get from this indie artist. Let’s keep pushing Zimbabwean Music. Invite your friends to like the Mcpotar Page. We are pimping it daily with exciting content.
