Interview R&B Artist Destinee Hall.

What is the message behind your music?
*I have a lot of songs where I just want people to think or learn to just live life and not dwell on negativity. I want to devote my entire existence to that and inspire people’s minds to think about “BETTER”
2. What do you want people to feel when they hear your voice?
*All I want people to feel is a natural connection, whatever kind of connection that is naturally brought out of them.
3. What has the music industry been like so far?
*It’s really exciting for me! Every aspect of it, so far, has been great. Everyday is a learning experience. Even when I’m just writing all day, I experiment and I learn more about myself, musically and personally. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and learning from a lot of people in the industry. Everything hasn’t always worked out, but it’s growth with every encounter, so I love it!
4. With so much violence surrounding the city of Memphis, what is the opinion on your city? What actions do you plan to take to better the city?
*I try not to focus on the negative things about Memphis, but I won’t ignore them either. Memphis has a lot of potential and that’s what I look at and think about. Every time someone asks me about it, all I can say is “Memphis is on a come-up!” I think in a lot of ways, Memphis has been an “underdog” city. We have so much history that not enough Memphians know about; so many success stories that are overlooked. It’s as if the city needs a positive role model that reminds them just how great Memphis actually is and that’s what I intend to be. I want them to look at me, my success, and my soul and say that I am a representative of what Memphis actually is and inspire someone from my city to be as great as they want to be.
5. If you could compare your music to someone, who could it be? Or would you rather not be compared?
*I would rather not be compared. My music stems from a lot of different things and every song is dear to me, even the ones I don’t like and don’t use. So to me, I’m just doing me. That’s how I feel about a lot of musicians. People compare Rihanna and Beyoncé, but I honestly don’t think that they can be compared. They both have an upperhand at something and their music fits them.
6. Who inspires you?
*In life, my family inspires me a lot. Musically, I listen to a bunch of stuff so it could come from anywhere… Like Bob Marley, Rihanna, Tupac, Anita Baker, Prince, Kings of Leon, Lenny Kravitz, Dave Matthews, Katy Perry, Erykah Badu, Aaliyah, Jay Z, Bon Jovi, Phil Collins… My musical taste is all over the place haha
7. What can we expect out of Destinee Hall?
*Expect a whole new energy to be put out into the world! My music is meant to put you in a different space. I’m excited to see who I can “wow”
8. Do you feel music has lost it’s gravity and is now all over the place?
*A lot of music has lost it’s gravity. Music is meant to be an expression, not just a product, and it’s all over the place because people are only concerned with money… However, I think there are a number of musicians who understand how to balance musical depth with what sells, and those are the artists who will have longevity. As a singer/songwriter, longevity is my goal.
9. Where can your fans reach you?
* On my website, there’s a contact form. It’s also connected to tumblr so if they have a tumblr, they can follow me (and I can follow back ^_^) and they will receive updates from me on their feed!
