Shannel is a female rising artiste from Zimbabwe, who has started releasing her music on her new soundcloud page. I saw her releases some weeks ago but time allowed me to zero in on them today. Zim Hip-hop has a fairly lower audience than most Zimbabwean music genres so you can imagine the come up for a female artiste in a male dominated art.
However, perhaps that could be her advantage to….
Well since i’m not here to discuss gender I will still review this with the same dagger that I use for the males. that’s what gender equality is. Shannel is definitely gifted as far as writing actual bars and judging by her young age she will improve more and more and mess with the big league. The song on focus is Cold War which feature Promics.
I liked the rhyme patterns, she should play more with poetry and session much in the studio. This is how Sharky came up. I feel however she has work to do on sounding more natural and free with the delivery. It sounds like she is trying to be hard, aggressive and fierce but there’s a missing component to it. – Perhaps she should experiment with some softie bars. We can compare and then choose.
It’s all about experimenting but hey, let’s give her time. It’s only 2 tracks up, you’ll never know what’s in the kitchen.
The instrumentation to Cold war is dope and I like the fact that she did a song with a exceptional artiste like Promics and still held her own 16.
Get the song already.
