Tinashe is a beautiful, American based songstresss who is a native Zimbabwean and Danish ancestry. Her name itself is Zimbabwean and she continues in that respect to fly Zimbabwe’s flag high somehow, even though she is an American.
She just released this stunning video featuring Schoolboy Q today, which is on VEVO and has creative choreography. It made me take interest in following her official site which is created to sell, and got me thinking if locals have embraced digital marketing at that level.
The song itself as most American themes do, has a sexual and braggadocio theme with lyrics like.
Give me all that you got now
Make you want me ’cause I’m hot now
I’m gone, so faded I’m on one
Bang bang, pop off like the long gun – Tinashe
Tinashe herself says , “2 on is all about having fun and the fearlessness to experience life to the fullest. This verse sets the scene— we are young, and ready to get 2 on!!”.
I guess these can be translated to living to the edge, drugs, sex and all of the things usually associated with the mainstream and nightlife. The hook does outline how Tinashe only wants to get it on with people of high status, Stricly VIP. Which brings an element of some sort of class-ism in my opinion, which is quite common even in Zimbabwe, hence the Samora border theory, whether it’s true or false. Where people chose their affiliation in social circles by class. I am not sure if pop culture has a heavy influence on this.
According to Kanye West, class-ism is the new form of racism. Tinashe is our African sister and I think in this case she has allowed herself to push an agenda that feeds capitalist interests. Anyway, who am i, I’m just Mcpotar, a hating ass blogger lol. The song is brilliant though I must admit, all i am saying is, it is not pushing a righteous agenda.
Schoolboy Q’s lyrics are sexual as well and have a braggadacio concept of him bragging about his game and how he gets to have sex with different ladies Money , drugs and sex, you know the usual concept.
Anyway lets watch the video and discuss it. Click here
